The Carroll Dragons avenged last season’s stumble at Coppell with an impressive victory over the Cowboys Friday at Dragon Stadium.
The Dragons unveiled their new black/green Under Armour jerseys and knocked out rival Coppell 27-10 before a frenzied home crowd. Carroll not only remained undefeated, it also moved into sole possession of first place in District 7-5A by virtue of Fossil Ridge’s victory against Keller Central.
With the victory, Carroll added to its commanding series lead against Coppell 38-7.
Carroll (7-0, 4-0) faces Keller Central (6-1, 3-1) Thursday at 7 p.m. at KISD Athletic Complex.
After an early defensive struggle, the Dragons slowly kept enough distance and put away Coppell with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Carroll led 13-3 at halftime. Dragon quarterback Kenny Hill was 24-of-29 passing for 196 yards and added 75 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns rushing. Receiver Peyton Williams had 14 catches for 101 yards and Sabian Holmes had eight catches for 67 yards.
Running back Steven Bergmark produced some big plays including busting through the pile for a 27-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, Carroll’s defense held Coppell to 273 total yards.
