2nd Annual “Deck the Windows” Contest Begins November 19

In the spirit of the holiday season, the City of Southlake is once again inviting all businesses in Town Square and beyond to celebrate this special time of year by creating an eye-catching holiday window and storefront display in this year’s “Deck the Windows” contest which runs November 19 – December 16.

The second annual event, which had 25 participating stores and nearly 600 votes during last year’s contest, kicks-off at the Annual Tree Lighting November 19 in Southlake Town Square. The winner will be announced December 16.

According to Cathy Crombie of Brooks Brothers in Town Square, who won the decorating contest last year, the work put into building a display is both rewarding and fun for all involved.

“The contest is lots of fun and very competitive among all the businesses,” says Crombie.  “We received a plaque last year in honor of our win and are very excited to enter the contest again this year.”

The “Deck the Windows” decorating contest is meant to not only encourage people to shop, but is also used as a canvas to help spread holiday cheer among the residents and visitors to Southlake.

All participating businesses in the contest must have their application into the City of Southlake Economic Development Department by November 9. To be eligible in the contest, each window display must be ready by November 19 for its grand unveiling to the public.

All participants will be included on a map and scorecard that will be posted on various websites (for downloading) and available to pick-up at the Holiday Concierge, located at 218 State Street next door to Jamba Juice. Numbers corresponding to the score card will be assigned to the participating stores and will be placed within the store window for judges to see when walking the displays. Votes may be cast via text, e-mail or by dropping off the score card at the Concierge Store. Please note that only one vote per telephone number, e-mail address and name will be accepted.

“We enjoy being able to follow the contest as the results get posted online,” says Crombie.  “The contest definitely is great for business.”
