Regatta Sets Sail

The wildly popular Carroll ISD cardboard regatta is an annual tradition. This year was a little different. Students set sail under a new campus name: Walnut Grove Elementary School.

Students in the fourth grade class spent the last several weeks designing and building boats out of cardboard.
Friday morning, Feb. 3 hundreds of students, parents and Carroll ISD staff members filled the CISD Aquatics Center on Southlake Boulevard to test the waters. Students captained their own boats and  paddled in pairs across the pool to parents awaiting on the opposite side. The boats, constructed out of cardboard, and in some cases wrapped in plastic are part of a science project under the direction of Walnut Grove Elementary science teacher Debra Heath.

Members of the media also showed up to capture the action. The cardboard regatta is scheduled every year during the first week of February.
