Lady Dragons Earn District 7-5A Co-Title; Face Plano In Playoffs

The Lady Dragons completed a run to their third consecutive district championship by defeating Denton Guyer on Tuesday 57-42. Carroll, ranked No. 7 in the state, earned a share of the District 7-5A championship with Keller. Carroll and Keller split their head-to-head meetings. The Lady Dragons were led by guard Kami Mickens’ 18 points. Sierra Maykus added 17 and Caitlin Barrett chippe in 10. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Dragons outscored Guyer 15-7. Carroll finishes the regular season 28-3 overall and 13-1 in district.

PLAYOFFS: The Lady Dragons now turn their attention to the Class 5A bi-district playoffs and face Plano at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13 at Carrollton Smith.

Boys Get Win As Playoff Race Tightens
The Dragons also earned a kye victory Tuesday night against Denton Guyer. It was an important win as the Dragons continue to fight for one of the two remaining playoff berths in District 7-5A. Carroll defeated Guyer 55-46 as leading scorer Max Berman poured in a game-high 17 points. Josh Stringer added 15 and Brett Jolly scored 12. The Dragons led after every quarter and moved to 16-15 overall and 6-6 in district. Keller Central and Coppell have already clinched playoff berths. Keller holds third place at 7-5 while Carroll, Northwest and Fossil Ridge are tied for the fourth playoff berth. Two games remain in district.

Carroll hosts Fossil Ridge at 7:30 p.m. Friday and ends the regular season next Tuesday at Keller.
