The Carroll Lady Dragons’ basketball team opened the Class 5A state playoffs with a 56-52 victory against Plano on Monday in Carrollton. The Lady Dragons overcame a first-half deficit and outscored Plano 33-23 in the second half. Carroll, now 29-3 overall, was led by Kennedy Leonard’s 17 points and Kami Mickens and Gretchen Morrison both chipped in 13 apiece. Sierra Maykus added eight points. The Lady Dragons advance to face Mansfield Timberview at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at Richland High School in the area round of the playoffs.

Dragons Knocked Out Of Playoffs
The Dragon boys’ basketball team was knocked out of the playoffs after losing its district finale to Keller 56-44. The Dragons finished sixth in District 7-5A as the top four teams qualify for the playoffs. Carroll was led by Steve Knowlton’s 10 points. The Dragons finished the season 16-17 overall and 6-8 in district.
