The deadline to be on the ballot for the May 12 Carroll School Board election came and went Monday leaving incumbents Read Ballew and Erin Shoupp without opponents in their re-election bids for three-year terms.
Ballew, the sitting Board President, was elected to a three-year term on the Carroll ISD Board of Trustees in May 2009 and serves in an at-large seat in Place 4. Shoupp is a past Board President who was elected to three-year terms by CISD voters in 2003, 2006 and in 2009. She fills the at-large position in Place 5 and currently chairs the district’s Budget & Finance Committee and the Bond Advisory Committee.
CISD School officials say the uncontested races gives the district the option of canceling the election and declaring the two incumbents winners. Filing began February 4 and lasted until 5 p.m. March 5. Under a new law, March 5 was also the deadline for candidates to declare a write-in candidacy. The CISD School Board will have the option of canceling the election at a future meeting.
The May 12 election was supposed to be held in conjunction with Tarrant County and the City of Southlake. Early voting in the election will be held in May at designated polling places throughout Tarrant County. Any registered voter may cast a ballot at the early voting poll of their choice during the early voting dates. Election day voting will be done by precinct number from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A complete listing of polling sites by precinct number will be posted to this webpage soon.
