C-STAR Program Hopes to Get Boost from Fun Run

Members of the Carroll ISD Transition Services Department hope  an upcoming Kiwanis event will help raise money and awareness of the district’s C-STAR program. The Kiwanis Run for the Kids is scheduled for Saturday, May 5 in Southlake Town Square. The race benefits local children’s charities. The fun run starts at 7:30 a.m. at McPherson Park. Southlake Kiwanis has been a strong supporter of the school district’s efforts to help special needs students transition to life outside the classroom. Click here to learn more about C-STAR.

At a recent meeting in March, Kiwanis members welcomed Carroll ISD staff for a special presentation. Diagnostician Robin Kuntz and Transition Coordinator Melinda Mason explained to the group about the C-STAR program and it’s needs. Local car dealership, Q Automotive Group donated a loaner vehicle to CISD’s Transition Services team for use in transportion C-STAR students.

“Speaking on behalf of the Q [Automotive Group], we have never been involved with a more worthwhile cause than the C -STAR program and we are excited to play a small role in its success,” said Q Special Markets Manager, Al Van Scotter. “The entire CISD team from the top down deserves a big round of applause.  I will continue to promote your programs whenever & wherever I can.”

In addition, Southlake Kiwanis has donated $5,000 to the program to assist with the actual purchase of a vehicle. Kiwanis members hope to raise more money for the C-STAR program at the fun run in May.
