The team selected nine schools that participated in the program to receive a book donation from Half Price Books. DIS was one of the winning schools. Campuses were selected based on the volume of extra-curricular reading students did over an eight-week period in December. According to the Dallas Stars website, “Stick with Reading” started in 1998 to encourage kids to read during leisure time. In 2010, the program boasted over 20,000 participants representing 988 classrooms in 31 different school districts throughout North Texas.
The next step is for Durham staff to coordinate a book pick up a participating Half Price Books location. The campus is scheduled to receive approximately 35 boxes of gently used books.
