The Class 5A defending state champion Carroll Dragons opened the postseason Tuesday night against another of the area’s top teams in Marcus. The battle of former state championship programs went to a shootout and the Dragons advanced with a 2-1 victory at Northwest High School. Carroll’s Tommy Price scored the game-winner in the shootout. Lady Dragons Blank Hebron
Like the boys’ team, the Lady Dragons had a successful start to the 2012 playoffs. Carroll blanked Hebron 4-0 in the bi-district round Tuesday at Denton High School. Standout Sophie Groff had one goal and two assists and the Lady Dragons spread the wealth offensively. Cristina Petrovich, Lissi Lonsberry and Meghan Murphy all scored goals and Alison Savage added two assists. Carroll improved to 24-2-1 with the victory. The Lady Dragons advance to meet Mansfield Legacy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Bedford’s Pennington Field. Legacy is coming off a 2-1 shootout victory against L.D. Bell.
