The Carroll Lady Dragon soccer team’s impressive playoff run came to an end Tuesday at Northwest Stadium. The Lady Dragons were upended 2-1 in a shootout by the Marcus Lady Marauders in a Class 5A Region I Quarterfinal playoff. Carroll advanced to the third round of the postseason for the first time in four years.
The Lady Dragons took a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the game when Meghan Murphy scored a header after Sophie Groff’s crossing pass. Carroll was one minute away from a 1-0 victory, but Marcus scored late to force overtime and a shootout. Carroll ended the season 25-3-1 and earned a co-championship in District 7-5A. Groff also produced a historical season, setting the single-season team record with 35 goals this season.
Lissi Lonsberry, who has signed with SMU, was second on the team with 22 goals, while Murphy and Julia Dyche each scored 15 apiece. Dyche led the Lady Dragons with 24 assists.
