The Carroll Dragons’ quickly rebounded from a season-opening loss with a resounding victory last Friday in the home opener against Midland. The Dragons exploded early and routed Midland 63-3 at Dragon Stadium. Carroll (1-1) led 28-0 after the first quarter and 49-0 by halftime.
The Dragons, who face Temple at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Cowboys Stadium, were led by quarterback Kenny Hill. The senior Texas A&M commit threw for 311 yards on 17-of-23 passing and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 57 yards on five carries and two touchdowns. Running back A.J. Ezzard rushed for 89 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns. For the game, the Dragons averaged 8.4 yards per carry and totaled 604 yards of offense. Defensively, the Dragons held Midland below 200 yards of total offense (196). The Dragons produced three interceptions and JB Copeland returned one for a 33-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Carroll’s leading receiver was Ryan Weigel, who finished with six catches for 115 yards. Mike Gardiner (81 yards), Ryan McGiboney (55) and Ryan Agnew (24) each had one touchdown reception. Agnew, a receiver and backup quarterback, also had six carries for 50 yards and one TD rushing and threw for a score.
Temple enters the game 2-0 with victories against Round Rock (41-24) and Austin Westlake (49-42). The Wildcats are led by quarterback Zach Allen, who has commited to Syracuse and is a three-year starter.
