City's Leaf Recycling Program Returns

Fall has arrived, as well as the opportunity for Southlake residents to participate in the City’s fifth annual Leaf Recycling Program, a joint partnership between the City and Duncan Disposal. The Leaf Recycling Program gives citizens the opportunity to place their bagged leaves on the curb and have them picked up for recycling rather than ending up in the landfill.

To participate in the program, residents are asked to place their bagged leaves at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on the following collection days:

  • Wednesday, November 14
  • Wednesday, December 5
  • Wednesday, December 19
  • Wednesday, January 9

Residents may bag their leaves using any type of bag. Bagged leaves must also be physically separated from other solid waste at the curb.

The City’s Leaf Recycling Program aims to reduce the amount of valuable landfill space that is used up by yard waste, an activity that in the long-term, removes nutrients from the environment and costs residents more in increased taxes and service fees. A more environmentally friendly disposal option is to recycle leaves and reuse their valuable organic nutrients in landscaped areas. Since the program’s inception, Southlake residents have bagged and recycled close to 550 tons of leaves.
