Double Dragons: Cross Country Teams Capture Back-To-Back Titles

ROUND ROCK – It was a title defense that was twice as nice for the Carroll Dragon boys’ and girls’ cross country teams. The program continues to make history as both teams captured Class 5A state championships in commanding fashion last Saturday morning at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock. Carroll earned back-to-back state titles for the boys and girls.

The Lady Dragons won by an impressive 63 points ahead of Humble Kingwood and were led by Courtney Kriegshauser, who finished fifth overall. She was one of four Lady Dragons who placed in the top 10 to help carry the team to the crown. Shelby Chapin was seventh overall followed by Elena Arriaza in eighth and Antigone Archer in 10th.  Carroll’s top four runners were 12 seconds apart. Maddie Keen finished 17th. The state championship was the 6th for the Lady Dragons in Class 5A, further entrenching their powerhouse status.

The Dragons won by 44 points over The Woodlands and were led by Nate Sullivan, who finished third overall to lead a pack of four Carroll runners who placed in the top 10. Joe Sansone was fourth overall, six seconds behind Sullivan. Trevor Gilley was sixth and Connor Hendrickson was eighth. All four runners were within 18 seconds of each other. Eli Canal finished 17th. It marked the second state title for the boys’ program.
