Big-Play Dragons Blast Martin In Playoff Opener

ARLINGTON – For the Carroll Dragons, the Class 5A Division I playoff opener looked very similar to most of the regular season. It was another dazzling big -play offensive night and stellar defense.

Carroll blasted Arlington Martin 65-7 in a bi-district playoff at Cowboys Stadium to earn its 10th consecutive victory and begin its title defense in impressive style. The Dragons (10-1) produced 604 yards of offense and held a 28-0 after the first quarter.

Quarterback Kenny Hill was razor sharp finishing 16-of-17 with 256 yards and three touchdowns passing. He also added six carries for 137 yards and two TDs, topped by his amazing 64-yard scoring run in the second quarter. It helped Carroll build a 49-0 halftime lead. Hill did not play in the second half with Dragons holding a comfortable lead.

The Dragons’ starting defense did not yield a score and had a momentum-building interception in the first quarter that led to a Dragon TD.

Carroll advances to face El Paso El Dorado in the area round at 6 p.m. Saturday at Midland’s Grande Communications Stadium. El Dorado is coming off a thrilling 34-33 victory against Odessa Permian.

Luke Timian had two TD catches for the Dragons and Ryan Weigel led with 108 yards on four catches. Dragons running back A.J. Ezzard also added eight carries for 82 yards and two TDs.
