Lady Dragons Smash Weatherford In Bi-District Playoff

Carroll guard Kami Mickens scored a game-high 19 points in the playoff victory against Weatherford.

The Carroll Lady Dragon basketball team had a resounding start to the Class 5A playoffs Monday night. The Lady Dragons smashed Weatherford 78-38 in a 5A bi-district playoff at Fort Worth Nolan High School. Carroll (22-9) advances to face El Paso Franklin at 7 p.m. Friday at Big Spring High School in an area playoff.

The Lady Dragons held a 12-point lead at halftime and extended the lead with a big third quarter performance. Carroll oustscored Weatherford 24-7  in the third and raced to the blowout victory. Carroll was led by guard Kami Mickens’ game-high 19 points. Kennedy Leonard added 17 points and Gretchen Morrison tossed in 14. It was the Lady Dragons’ 13th consecutive victory. El Paso Frankin defeated Midland Lee in the opening round 79-65 and was the district runner up in 1-5A.
