Hughes Earns 500th Career Victory Tuesday

The Carroll Dragon baseball team’s victory Tuesday against Northwest had special meaning. It marked Dragon coach Larry Hughes’ 500th career victory. He is also six victories away from 400 at Carroll. Hughes took over the program in 1997.

The No. 4-ranked Dragons (16-2, 4-0 in District 4-5A) blanked Northwest 8-0 at Dragon Field behind pitcher Sean Thompson. He went six innings and had five strikeouts. Joe Heineman led Carroll with two hits and two RBI. The Dragons held a 5-0 lead after two innings and Thompson and reliever Ben Leeper limited Northwest to four hits. The Dragons finished with eight hits.

Carroll plays at Keller at 7 p.m. Friday.
