Region Soccer Tournaments Moving To North Texas

Carroll Dragon fans now have the chance to watch the school’s soccer playoffs in North Texas. The Class 5A Region I boys’ and girls’ soccer tournaments are moving from West Texas to North Texas, the UIL announced on Wednesday. The games will be played at Birdville ISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex in North Richland Hills.

With all eight teams representing North Texas, the UIL moved the tournament from Midland’s Grande Communications Stadium to BISD. The schedule of games will remain the same. The Dragons won in Midland on Tuesday against El Paso Montwood and were preparing for a return. The Lady Dragons defeated Timber Creek Tuesday night at Dragon Stadium. Both Carroll teams will avoid long road trips back to Midland.

“Although arrangements for this regional tournament have been in place for more than a year, the unique circumstance of having all eight qualifying teams for the tournament hailing from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex caused this re-evaluation,” said Dr. Mark Cousins, UIL Director of Athletics. “In an effort to reduce travel costs for school districts, and minimize loss of school time for student participants, we determined it would be in the best interests of our member schools to relocate this regional tournament.”

The Lady Dragons will play at noon Friday against Hebron. The Dragons play Marcus at 4 p.m.
