Dragons Fall To Marcus In Wild Region Semifinal

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – The Carroll Dragons battled to the waning seconds before losing a heartbreaker to Marcus in the Class 5A Region I semifinal.

The Dragons (21-4-4) fell 4-3 in a game of wild back-and-forth action last Friday that nearly saw the Dragons tie the game at the end of regulation. Carroll fell behind 2-0 in the first half, but battled back to cut the lead in half on a goal by Jack Fuller. But Marcus answered to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

Carroll’s Tommy Price added a goal on a penalty kick to cut the lead to 3-2, but again Marcus anwsered with its own penalty kick to make it 4-2. Jake Brabham added Carroll’s final goal with 15 minutes remaining. In the final minutes, the Dragons couldn’t capitalize and Marcus saved a potential game-tying goal in the final seconds.

Coppell defeated Marcus 1-0 on Saturday in the Region I Final to advance to the state tournament.
