Drama-Filled Afternoon Sends Dragons To Region Tournament

MIDLAND – The Dragons scored in the final two minutes of regulation and edged El Paso Montwood in overtime of a Class 5A Region I Quarterfinal at Grande Communications Stadium. Montwood took the lead late in regulation, but the Dragons answered. Dragon junior midfielder Jack Parrish responded moments after Montwood’s goal with 1:41 to send the game into overtime. Both teams went scoreless in the first 10-minute overtime.

In the second overtime period, Parrish delivered again — this time with the game-winner with four minutes left. The victory will send the Dragons back to Midland later this week to play in the Class 5A Region I tournament. The semifinals will be held Friday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Grande Communications Stadium. Carroll will play at 4 p.m. vs. the Marcus-Duncanville winner. The Region I title game will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.
