Carroll Senior Class Remembered For Personality

The story of Carroll’s 592 graduates is just beginning.

If one were to ask Student Class President Alison Savage to define the Class of 2013 in one word, she would say: “personality.” She also describes her fellow graduates as being “outgoing, random, outrageous and full of energy.” In contrast to all of the humorous moments the seniors have shared, Savage also highlights the tremendous amount of hard work and determination displayed over the years at Carroll.

According to Savage, Carroll isn’t acknowledged for only one aspect. Dragons receive recognition for their achievements in academics, cross country, band, swimming, diving, football, choir, soccer and more. The friendships and memories that were made in and outside of the halls and classrooms of Carroll will remain with the Class 2013 for a lifetime.

Nitya Kumar spent her senior year at all the sporting events spreading Dragon spirit as a member of the CREW. Kumar would agree that the Class of 2013 has the personality and humor that make them stand out. She remembers, “At our very first senior meeting, we would cheer and chant after every word that the guy from Jostens would say. I guess we were too excited.”

There were many hilarious moments shared between the seniors throughout their last year at Carroll. However, the Class of 2013 dealt with their share of heartbreak as well. Kumar said it was hard for students to finish their senior year when too many of their friends weren’t there to experience it with them. Through the pain, Kumar said the class as “truly coming together to grow stronger. A family is always there during both the happy and sad times and that’s what we became for each other.”

The graduates are leaving behind many things at Carroll. Teachers, counselors, administrators, and fellow classmates will miss their presence. But the future is looking very bright for the Class of 2013. They are destined to make a positive impact as the next engineers, doctors, educators, innovators, executives, lawyers, journalists, entrepreneurs and civic leaders. The graduates will continue to grow into the future leaders that will shape our community. As they set out on the path towards fulfilling their dreams and goals, graduates will always have a home to come back to at Carroll because “tradition never graduates.”

Achievements of the Class of 2013

• Community Service: 54,000+ hours
• Top 10 Colleges chosen: University of Oklahoma, University of Arkansas, Texas A&M, University of Texas at Austin, Oklahoma State University, University of North Texas, Texas Tech University, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College, Southern Methodist University
• Scholarships: $25+ million
• Athletic Competitions: Class 5A state title for Boys’ Swimming & Diving, Girls’ Swimming & Diving, Boys’ Cross Country, Girls’ Cross Country
• Academic Competitions: State title for the UIL Social Studies Team
• Armed Forces: Six graduates are entering the Armed Services. Two will join the Army, one will join the Marines, one received an appointment to the Naval Academy, one received an appointment to the Air Force Academy, and one received an appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy.
• UIL Lone Star Cup Award, honored as the best overall 5A athletic,  academic and fine arts program in Texas
• Record number of National Merit Finalists and Commended students in the Class of 2013 including a student who had a perfect score on the ACT
• The Emerald Belles were the State Champion Winners at the ShowMaker Competition
• Dragon Band earned a Sweepstakes Award at the Region 24 UIL Concert and Sightreading contest
• Three of the four competing Carroll Choir groups received a Sweepstakes Award at the Region 24 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest
• Carroll Theatre Department won four Schmidt and Jones Awards, including Best Musical for Legally Blonde: The Musical
