Southlake Tennis Center Hosts Junior Tennis Camps and Classes June 10 – August 23

Southlake Tennis Center, one of the premier facility for junior tennis instruction in Dallas Fort Worth, kicks-off its junior summer program June 10 with week-long tennis camps, once-a-week tennis classes, and tournament training. Other activities throughout the summer include Friday Match Days, Saturday Play Nights and Future Stars Tournaments. Registration and payment can be done at the pro shop or online at www.SouthlakeTennis.com

According to Mia Gordon-Poorman, general manager of Southlake Tennis Center, the goal is to provide programs for both recreational and competitive junior players.

“Summer is a time to have fun and we make sure kids have fun on the courts while also developing basic skills. For our players who compete in tournaments, summer is the time for intensive training,” she says, noting classes follow the USTA High Performance Coaching Program with certified coaches who played college tennis.

Using the USTA QuickStart program for 10 and under players, which uses modified courts, balls and racquets, the junior tennis camps and classes include warm up drills, stroke development, tennis related games, and match play. Players are grouped by age/ability. The student-pro ratio is no more than eight students which ensures individualized attention and emphasize correct technique and match play skills. The instructors are all PTR/USPTA certified tennis professionals with specialist certifications in junior development. Students will be given a sports sack, water bottle and t-shirt at the time of registration. Players who come to one week of camp are eligible for a 10 percent discount on additional weeks in camp or other summer tennis activities.

“This program emphasizes good technique and the ability to play points, which develops tennis skills more quickly,” states Director of Tennis Stephen Poorman, noting Southlake Tennis Center was one of the first facilities in Texas to be recognized as a USTA Approved QuickStart Tennis Facility. “The focus is on learning to play the game from an early age, not just instruction.”
