Dragon Stadium is now greener than ever before. Troop #4036 of the Junior Girl Scouts kicked off their recycling initiative at Carroll Senior High Graduation on Friday, June 7. The effort to implement environmentally-sound practices will become routine at football games on Friday nights at Dragon Stadium thanks to Troop #4036. The Girls Scouts were busy working hours after the Commencement ceremony had ended by picking up nearly 3,000 empty bottles of water. Troop Leader Shannan Needleman was thrilled when Republic Recycling informed her that the bottles collected from Graduation will be recycled and back on the shelves in less than three months.
Carroll ISD is committed to preventing waste and promoting efficiency at all eleven campuses. According to Director of Facilities Chauncey Willingham, each campus has a reuse, reduce and recycle plan. Principals designate a teacher, usually from the science department, to head up the effort. Students are encouraged to wisely dispose of their recyclable items throughout the day with a focus on lunchtime in the cafeteria. Also, items no longer needed in a campus are donated, rather than thrown away.
