Alexander Selected By Tigers
Former Carroll ace pitcher Tyler Alexander was drafted in the 23rd round by the Detroit Tigers in the First-Year Player Draft. Alexander, who has signed with TCU, went 12-1 this season and led the area in strikeouts with 177. Alexander expects to opt for college and has enrolled at TCU. The Frogs will enter their second year in the Big 12 this season.
Former Receiver Vying For Time At Tech
Ex-Dragon standout receiver Peyton Williams is vying for a backup role at split end for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Williams, a member of the Dragons’ 2011 Class 5A state champion, transferred to Tech from Colorado. Willliams’ senior year at Carroll was cut short due to an ACL injury in the state semifinals. Carroll Kicker Commits To Nebraska
Dragon kicker Drew Brown has commited to Nebraska. The senior-to-be will follow in the footsteps of brother Kris, who starred at Carroll and with Cornhuskers. Kris (Carroll graduate 1995) played 12 seasons in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans. Drew enters his third year as the Dragon’ starting place kicker. He is 27-of-33 on field goals the past two seasons.
Dragon Two-A-Days Begin Aug. 12
The Dragons begin two-a-day practices Monday, Aug. 12 at Carroll Senior High School. School starts Aug. 26. The Dragons’ first action will be a scrimmage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 against Duncanville at Dragon Stadium. The season opener is Friday, Aug. 30 against defending state champion Allen at Dragon Stadium. Last year Allen opened its new stadium hosting the defending state champion Dragons.
Ex-Carroll Infielder Bound For A&M
Cisco Junior College second baseman Patrick McLendon will play next season at Texas A&M. This summer, McLendon was selected to Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game. Read more about McLendon here.
Dragon Head To 7-on-7 State Tournament
The state 7-on-7 tournament will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Southwest Williamson Country Regional Park in Leander. Carroll will be in the four-team Pool H with Hendrickson, Manvel and San Antonio Johnson in Division I.
