The Bob Jones Nature Center Educators Launch Urban Ecology Field School

The Bob Jones Nature Center educators have developed an Urban Ecology Field School at BJNC for homeschooled students grades Pre-K through 8th grade. Over the course of the year, students will learn actual scientific protocols for conducting ecological field studies.  The focus of the program is on STEM education—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Educators will be working to encourage students to develop and maintain an interest in science and hope to inspire them to explore potential degrees and careers in STEM fields.

The first unit of the Urban Ecology Field School begins August 26. Each unit spans three weeks and the registration fee covers a total of six classes. The Unit Titles and dates for this semester are:

  • The Water Cycle: August 26 – September 13
  • Water Erosion: September 16 – October 4
  • Geology & Soils: October 7 – October 25
  • Soil Ecology: Life Under Your Feet: October 28 – November 15
