Dragons Face Allen In Season-Opening Showdown

The 2013 football season in Texas opens Friday with the biggest game in the state played at Dragon Stadium.

The Class 5A No. 5-ranked Carroll Dragons will host No. 1-ranked Allen at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 in a showdown of powers. Allen is the defending Class 5A Division I state champion. Carroll won the previous Division I title in 2011. Last season, the Eagles hosted this matchup and won 24-0. It was the Dragons only loss of the regular season.

Carroll vs. Allen will be tape delayed and televised by TXA-21 beginning at 10:30 p.m. Friday following the game. The Dragons will be led by first-year starting quarterback Ryan Agnew along with a cast of experienced receivers and returning tailback A.J. Ezzard. Agnew and his receivers shined as they won this year’s 7-on-7 state champions and will look to build on their chemistry.

Defensively, the Dragons return several key players including defensive linemen Nash Dickey, King Newton and A.J. Tolbert and linebackers J.B. Copeland and Steven Bergmark and cornerback Adaryan Jones.
