Dragons Run Away With Bi-District Victory

COPPELL – The ground-bound Carroll Dragons rolled in the first round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs last Friday.

The normally pass-oriented Dragons featured its running game in a 56-14 victory against the Bowie Volunteers at Coppell’s Cowboy Stadium. The Dragons rushed for 351 yards and averaged nearly seven yards per carry. Running back A.J. Ezzard rolled behind the Dragon offensive line with 24 carries for 164 yards and four touchdowns (4, 6, 3, 20 yards). Quarterback Ryan Agnew added 12 carries for 94 yards and two TDs.

All eight Dragon TDs were on the ground. Agnew went 10-for-13 passing with 165 yards.

The Dragons jumped to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and 35-14 at half thanks to Ezzard’s 20-yard run with 19 seconds left in second quarter. Bowie was held to 11 first downs and 265 yards of offense for the game.

Carroll (10-1) advances to face Midland Lee (9-2) in a Region I area matchup at 7 p.m. Friday at Saginaw’s Chisolm Trail Stadium. This is a rematch of a regular season matchup Sept. 6 at Dragon Stadium. The Dragons won the game 63-14 as Agnew threw for 248 yards and three TDs and rushed for 144 yards and 4 TDs.

Midland Lee defeated El Paso El Dorado 47-28 in the bi-district round.

Playoff Ticket Information
Tickets go on sale Tuesday at Dragon Stadium, Carroll Senior High School and Carroll High School. Dragon Stadium’s ticket office will be open Tuesday-Thursday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. CSHS and CHS will sell tickets at the front office Tuesday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Pre-game adult admission is $8; students $5. All tickets at the gate are $10.
