Hey, there’s something new at the Southlake Public Library! Today, the Library unveiled two AWE Early Literacy Stations for children ages 2-8 years. The AWE ELS provides more than 60 engaging software programs that allow children to advance their skills in seven curricular areas while gaining experience with a safe, internet-free, digital environment. The games and activities are pre-loaded on the computer and displayed using appealing graphics and intuitive menus. Each ELS includes a touchscreen monitor, child-friendly keyboard and mouse, and audio headphones to providing a full digital learning environment.
The AWE Early Literacy Stations were purchased through a grant from the Ladd and Katherine Hancher Library Foundation, which provides grants to libraries serving populations less than 50,000. The Hancher Foundation approved a grant to the Southlake Public Library for $9,246 for the purchase of two AWE stations and an Evanced Summer Reader digital module, which will support the Southlake Summer Reading Club beginning in 2014.
