Police Are Stepping Up Seat Belt Enforcement During Click It or Ticket

CLICK_FY14As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the Southlake Police Department wants you and your family to be safe while enjoying your time together.  Memorial Day weekend is typically a time in which police departments see a rise in vehicle accidents that result in serious injury or death.

In an effort to keep our citizens safe, the Southlake Police Department will be participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket program, which emphasizes enforcement of seat belt laws.  Between Monday, May 19, and Sunday, June 1, SLPD officers will be stepping up enforcement and looking for individuals who are travelling in the city and not wearing seat belts.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers increase their chances of surviving a crash by 45 percent when they buckle up. Unbelted back seat passengers can become human projectiles in a car crash and can even injure or kill those in the front seat.

Remember, Texas law requires all adult passengers in a vehicle to wear seat belts, regardless of where they are sitting, and children must be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches. To make sure your child’s safety seat is installed properly, click here.
