Dragons Crush El Dorado, Advance to Region Quarters

Dragon ace Ben Leeper earned the Game 1 victory of the area playoff series vs. El Paso El Dorado.

MIDLAND – The Carroll Dragons completed a Class 5A area series sweep last weekend against El Paso El Dorado.

The Dragons (28-4) won 12-2 and 10-2 at Midland High School to advance to the Region I Quarterfinals. Carroll will face San Angelo Central in a series beginning Friday in Austin. Central defeated Arlington Martin in three games to advance.

In the opener, the Dragons scored in all but one inning and held a 9-2 lead after a four-run fifth. Carroll produced a 14-hit attack led by Drew Brown and Eric Cole, who each had three hits apiece. Cole finished with four RBI. Pitcher Ben Leeper went six innings and had six strikeouts.

In Game 2, starter Joe Heineman earned the victory and Barry Casey went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a two-run home run. Brown also went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI. The Dragons took control with a five-run fourth inning and 6-1 lead.
