Dragons Rally vs. Paschal, Advance to Area Round


Dragon senior catcher Drew Brown had two hits including a triple in the 5-2 playoff victory against Paschal.

The Carroll Dragon baseball team used a big fifth-inning rally to upend Paschal in a Class 5A area round one-game playoff last Thursday at a packed Dragon Field.

Carroll scored four runs in the fifth to win 5-2 and overcame an early 2-0 deficit with timely hitting and solid base-running. After the first inning, starterBen Leeper settled in and shutdown the Paschal offense. Leeper finished with 10 strikeouts in six innings. Joe Heineman threw a scoreless seventh for the save. The Dragons finished with 10 hits including a triple by catcher Drew Brown. Kevin Cramer and Heineman had RBI hits.

The Dragons advance to face El Paso El Dorado in a three-game area playoff series Friday-Saturday at Midland High School. The series opener is 5 p.m. Friday. Game 2 is noon Saturday and Game 3 (if necessary) is 30 minutes after Game 2.
