Cross Country Girls Take First; Boys Finish Second

ccGRAPEVINE – The 10th Annual Southlake Invitational took place Saturday at Meadowmere Park. The meet kicked off just as the sun was rising on this spectator-friendly course. Varsity and JV Dragon girls took 1st place spots and the Varsity and JV Dragon boys both took 2nd place.

Seven Dragon varsity boys and five Dragon varsity girls finished with qualifying times for the National Silver Team. Times for boys must be sub-16:30 and girls must be sub-19:45 to qualify for this prestigious team.

“First we would like to thank everyone that helped with the Southlake Invitational this year,” Carroll cross country coach Justin Leonard said. “The meet had over 2600 runners and it wouldn’t have been possible without all of our volunteers.”

Dragon Varsity Girls Take 1st at Southlake Invitational

The Varsity Girls were led by junior Sarah Odneal in 9th place (19:02), junior Kayli Jones 14th (19:18), senior Rianna Randolph followed in 21st (19:29), sophomore Gillian Mortimer placed 27th (19:36:23) and junior Allison Esparza took 28th place (19:36:49) to complete the 5 scoring positions.  There were a total of 311 varsity girl runners.

The Varsity boys team took 2nd led by senior Eli Canal placing 4th with a time of 15:30, 13th place went to senior Ansel Richards (15:47), senior Johnny Kemps grabbed 17th place (15:51), junior Shea Whatley came in next for the Dragons with a 19th place finish (15:58) and sophomore Reed Brown took the 20th spot (16:01) to complete the top five Carroll runners out of 360 varsity boys participants.
