Cross Country Teams Earn Top Finishes at Marcus Invitational

Carroll Dragon logo Trademarked 4The Carroll Cross Country teams competed at the Marcus I Invitational last Saturday at Denton’s North Lakes Park with three of the four teams placing first.

“We were very pleased with the way our teams performed at the Marcus I Invite,” Carroll coach Justin Leonard said. “They displayed strong depth across the board. Anytime you can run two varsity teams and still be able to win the JV divisions, speaks volumes to the amount of work and dedication the kids put in this summer.  We still have a lot of work to do in order to achieve our goals. Nobody remembers who wins this early in the season, they just remember who wins late in the season.”

In the boys’ Varsity race, Eli Canal took 1st for the Dragons and 3rd overall with a time of 15:33, followed by Johnny Kemps grabbing 9th place, Ansel Richards in 10th place, Reed Brown placing 13th and Timou Toure in 14th to finish out the top five.

The Lady Dragon Varsity team had a strong showing coming in 2nd place lead by Sarah Odneal with an 11th place finish and a time of 19:28, followed by Gillian Mortimer taking 13th place, Kayli Jones right behind in 14th place, Rianna Randolph grabbing 23rd and Ari Lopez in 28th place to round out the top five scoring positions.

In the JV division, the Dragon girls captured the 1st place spot with runners Catherine Tracht (2nd), Sarah McCabe (3rd), Natalie Owens (5th), Lauren Esparza (7th) and Amy Riera (10th) all scoring for the team.

In the JV boys race, the Dragon runners also placed 1st lead by Garrett Gabriel (1st), Juan Arcila (6th), Enzo Mortimer (11th), Nicholas Fernandes (12th) and Grand Autry 14th) all scoring.

The Dragons runners will host the Southlake Invitational Saturday, Sept. 6 at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine.
