Dragons Outlast Westlake in Season Opener

The Carroll Dragon football team opened the 2014 season with a 17-14 victory against Austin Westlake last Friday at Dragon Stadium.

The game featured the return of former Carroll coach Todd Dodge, now in his first year at Westlake. The Dragons trailed 7-0, but rallied with 17 consecutive points and the defense held in the final minutes to secure the victory. The Dragons, ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 6A, face Tulsa Union at 8 p.m. Friday at AT&T Stadium.

Dragon quarterback Ryan Agnew threw for 100 yards and rushed for 92 and one touchdown. Carroll trailed 7-3 at the half but scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to take the lead. Lil’ Jordan Humphrey had 12 rushes for 76 yards and one touchdown.

The Dragon defense produced three turnovers, including two interceptions and one fumble.

Notes: This will be the season opener for Tulsa Union, which lost to Jenks in the state championship last year. Union has eight Oklahoma state titles.
