Dragon Band Celebrates Overall Championship in New District

The Carroll Dragon Marching Band competed against 26 other bands in the 2014 Golden Triangle Classic held on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Denton.

Scoring an 887 in the preliminary rounds, the Dragon Band earned “Best in Class” and overall first place. The Dragons advanced to the Finals Competition that evening against the overall top 10 bands from prelims, holding a mere .2 point advantage over defending 2013 GTC champion Sherman H.S.

In finals, the Dragon Marching Band increased their scores in 5 of 7 categories, scoring a 910.5 to Sherman’s 905, earning the title “2014 Golden Triangle Grand Champions”.  Additionally, the Dragons earned two caption awards, which were “Best Musical Performance” and “Best Visual Performance”.

This marks the Dragon Marching Band’s first overall championship in the 5A/6A era, and the band staff is extremely proud of the students for all of their hard work.

The next competition will be Saturday, Oct. 11 in the Tournament of Champions at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton. Performance is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
