Half of the Junior Division Finalists in the annual Red Steagall Youth Poetry Contest were from Carroll ISD’s Durham Intermediate School. Five students: McKayla Richardson, Heloise Hoffman, Kenton Faltys, Braeden Patterson and Izzy Stiborek were named finalists at the event on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The annual event is held Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards. As part of the competition, students were required to recite their poems from memory in front of an audience and judges wearing western themed attire.
The poetry contest is just one event held at the annual Red Steagall’s Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival. This year was the 25th anniversary for the event. Click here for more information.
Richardson, Hoffman, Faltys, and Patterson are all students in Patty Christensen’s fifth grade class. Stiborek is also fifth grader at DIS in Kelly Henderson’s class.
