Dragons Win Fourth Straight State Title

State Cross Country (1)ROUND ROCK – The run of greatness continues for the Carroll Dragon cross country team.

The boys claimed their fourth consecutive state championship, this time in the newly-configured Class 6A. The Dragons scored 94 points and marked the fifth team in UIL history to win four straight. Carroll finished 11 points ahead of second-place The Woodlands.

Sophomore Reed Brown came in 7th overall and senior Eli Canal followed in 20th place to secure the win for the Dragons.  Ansel Richards was the next scoring Dragon, coming in 34th place followed by Timou Toure grabbing 37th and Michael Waugh taking 43rd to finish out the scoring positions.  Eric Karl came in 46th place and Luke Lanham took 92nd, completing the varsity team.

“Our boys and girls teams ran a gutsy race today at the state meet,” Carroll coach Justin Leonard said. “The most impressive and gratifying thing to watch is how our kids #1-7 leave everything they have on the course.  I just want to thank everyone that is involved with our program. I am honored to be a part of it.”

The Lady Dragons had previously won the last three state championships and finished fourth overall. Their team was led by senior Rianna Randolph who took 31st place, followed by  Kayli Jones grabbing 45th, Gillian Mortimer came in 54th, Sarah Odneal was 55th and Catherine Tracht finished out the scoring positions coming in 58th.  Completing the varsity runners, Sarah McCabe took 77th and Ari Lopez came in 97th.State Cross Country (2)
