Good afternoon this is Assistant Police Chief James Brandon with an important safety message for Southlake residents. Area law enforcement agencies are working a string of violent crimes that have occurred in the recent past in at least five North Texas cities including in the City of Southlake.
The crimes that occurred in Southlake were residential burglaries; however, several home invasions occurred in nearby cities. The latest intelligence information we obtained indicates the persons responsible for the Home Invasions in area cities are the same suspects in at least two residential burglaries in Southlake. One incident that occurred in Flower Mound on Sunday evening involved six family members who were tied up and physically threatened by four armed people wearing masks. Three of the four suspects were arrested by law enforcement officers.
We want to assure residents that we do not believe there is a continued threat to our community from this team of criminals, but as a cautionary measure, the Southlake Police Department is stepping up patrols in residential neighborhoods and is urging anyone who notices suspicious activity to call 9-1-1 immediately.
As we continue to work with other law enforcement agencies across North Texas to investigate these home invasions and burglaries – the Southlake Police Department wants to encourage residents to continue practicing good crime prevention to include closing garage doors, locking homes, setting alarms and using caution when answering the front door where strangers are present.
