Carroll Dragon senior Jeremy Gonzales’ first marathon was a rewarding experience.
Gonzales finished second in his age group last Sunday in the MetroPCS 26-Mile Marathon in Dallas. He competed in the 19-and-under age group.
Gonzales is a member of the Dragon cross country team and upped his mileage goals this season to 70-80 miles per week and it paid off.
Due to the steep competition on the Dragon cross county team, Gonzales didn’t know how well he would perform in his first marathon. But running against the other Dragons on a daily basis only made him stronger for the marathon.
“I just got out and ran like I have been doing every day for the past four years in the Southlake Carroll cross country program,” Gonzales said. “There were some hard miles but I managed to run through them.”
