Members of the District Advisory Committee (DAC) reviewed various calendar options. School officials say the approved calendar is very similar to the current year calendar. The first day of school for students would be Monday, August 24, 2015.

The last day is Thursday, June 2, 2016 and graduation is Friday, June 3, 2016.

Dr. JJ Villarreal, Carroll ISD’s Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, said the biggest change in the calendar is a reduction from 177 instructional days to 176 allowing for an additional Professional Development day for staff in February. The date of the staff training day coincides with President’s Day, which many parents in the district have off as a holiday. In turn, several surrounding school districts were surveyed and offered the same PD day for staff on February 15. The reduction in instructional days will require a waiver from the Texas Education Agency as well.

Villarreal said DAC members took into consideration balancing out the semesters, giving periodic breaks to staff and students and aligning with neighboring districts where the children of Carroll teachers might attend. The decision regarding 2016 spring breaks among North Texas school districts is mixed, he said, but the calendar for Dragons has spring break on the third week in 2015 – March 14-18. This is the same spring break proposed by neighboring Grapevine-Colleyville, Keller, Birdville, HEB and Coppell ISDs.

The DAC is composed of employees, parents and business leaders who provide input into key decisions affecting Carroll ISD. The recommendation was presented to Trustees on February 2 as an information item; the Board voted to approve the calendar on February 16.
