Carroll Dragon logo Trademarked 4UPDATE: All of Carroll’s 22 National Merit Semifinalists have been named National Merit Finalists. This marks a record total for Carroll ISD.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation released the National Merit Semifinalists in September and the list included a school-record 22 Dragon students.

The NSCM announced approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically-talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million which will be offered next spring. Carroll’s previous highest total of National Merit Semifinalists was 14.

To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
