Lady Dragons Win; Dragons Face Tiebreaker Matchup

Senior post Madison Drescher and the Lady Dragons play Flower Mound on Friday in a Class 6A area playoff.

The Carroll Lady Dragons opened the Class 6A playoffs with a tough first-round matchup with South Grand Prairie.

The Lady Dragons withstood a fierce second-half rally by SGP and advanced with a 62-56 victory in the bi-district round Tuesday at Birdville Coliseum. Standout point guard Kennedy Leonard led the way with 27 points. Carroll advances to face Flower Mound at 7 p.m. Friday at Byron Nelson High School. Flower Mound is led by 6-foot-4 Lauren Cox, the No. 1-ranked player in the nation.

Boys Force Tiebreaker in 7-6A
The Dragons boys’ basketball team needed a victory against L.D. Bell on Tuesday and help from Richland to force a tiebreaker in District 7-6A. Both happened and the Dragons will face Colleyville Heritage in a playoff play-in game at 7 p.m. Friday at Grapevine for the final playoff seed in 7-6A. Carroll defeated Bell 57-35 and was led by Joey McCormick’s 15 points.
