Carroll ISD has hired Colleyville Heritage athletic coordinator/football coach Darren Allman as its new Athletic Director.
Allman was approved by the Board of Trustees during a special board meeting Monday at Carroll ISD’s Administration Center.
Allman has 21 years of experience in public education and five as an athletic director at Austin Westlake, where he also served as head coach from 2009-2014.
Westlake finished in the top five of the Class 5A Lone Star Cup standings and finished second twice during his tenure. He also led Westlake to the Class 5A Division I state finalist finish in 2009. Allman left Westlake for Colleyville Heritage in 2014.
“Darren Allman is an experienced leader with a background of success,” said Dr. JJ Villarreal, Carroll ISD Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. “We look forward to working with him as he provides leadership and support to our Dragon student-athletes and coaches as we continue to strive for excellence.”
Some of his accomplishments while serving as athletic coordinator or director include: creation of public-public partnership for construction of a multi-purpose indoor training facility, developed new marketing/advertisement package which included radio, TV and developed video board in partnership with booster clubs.
“I am really looking forward to becoming an integral part of this administration and working with the kids and coaches to help continue the great tradition of success and excellence,” Allman said.
Odessa Permian was his first stop as a head coach in 2005. It was also a return home for Allman, who was a former standout defensive back and 1987 Permian graduate. He helped return Permian to prominence from 2005-2009, which included three state quarterfinalist appearances.
Allman has a career record of 89-37 and has been a head coach for 10 years and a defensive coordinator for nine. He was head coach at Colleyville Heritage for one year. He replaces Kevin Ozee, who left in November to become athletic director at Arlington ISD.
