School Board To Call Special Meeting To Interview For Vacancy

Carroll Dragon logo Trademarked 4The Carroll School Board is expected to call a Special Meeting on Tuesday, July 14 at 8 a.m. to interview five applicants for the Place 1 Trustee position vacated by the resignation of Craig Rothmeier. The meeting will be held at the Administration Center, 2400 N. Carroll Avenue.

School Board President Christopher Archer said he expects the interviews to last about 15-20 minutes each during executive session. After interviewing the Board’s top five applicants, Trustees anticipate reconvening in open session to vote on a final candidate to serve as the Place 1 Trustee.

A total of 20 citizens applied for a chance to be named to fill the unexpired term following Mr. Rothmeier’s resignation May 19. An application was placed online, and the School Board set a deadline of 4:30 p.m. on June 11, 2015.

The individual ultimately appointed by a majority Board vote will serve in the vacancy until the May 2016 election when voters will elect a candidate to serve out the remaining final year for Place 1. The person appointed by the Board will have the choice whether or not to run in the May 2016 election. The seat will come up for election again for a three-year term in May 2017.

Archer said Trustees were very pleased with the quality of the volunteer applicants and any one of the individuals would have made a great Trustee.  The Board discussed the applications in executive session at their June 15 Board meeting but took no action. Applicants had to certify that they are eligible to serve as a Trustee, have lived in Texas for the past 12 months and have lived in Carroll ISD for the past six months.
