Approximate area of lane closures

Approximate area of lane closures

Some major changes are happening at the intersection of FM 1938 and FM 1709 (Southlake Boulevard) as part of the FM 1938 Phase II project.

Beginning the week of August 10, 2015, TxDOT will be closing various lanes along east and westbound FM 1709 (Southlake Boulevard) and north and southbound FM 1938 in preparation for construction on the intersection.  Motorists can expect the following:

  • The outside lane on FM 1709 westbound and on FM 1938 north of the intersection are planned to be closed indefinitely beginning Monday evening, August 10 at 8:00 p.m. to install concrete traffic barrier and begin construction activity at the intersection.
  • The outside lane on FM 1709 eastbound and on FM 1938 south of the intersection are planned to be closed indefinitely beginning Tuesday evening, August 11 at 8:00 p.m. to install concrete traffic barrier and begin construction activity at the intersection.

Several access driveways near the intersection of FM 1938 and FM 1709 are also planned to be closed indefinitely beginning Monday August 10 (click here for driveway closure locations). The driveways will be closed until further notice while construction activity occurs in this area. Please use alternate driveways to access your destination.

Additional various lane closures may occur at this location beginning Wednesday evening, August 12 at 8:00 p.m. to Thursday morning, August 13 at 6:00 a.m., if necessary.

Work on the intersection is a major milestone in the FM 1938 Phase II project and once it’s complete, will add dual left turn lanes on all sides of the intersection. This will improve mobility and traffic flow in the area and address major traffic concerns stemming from an increase in cars along FM 1709 (Southlake Boulevard). Until it’s complete however, we ask for patience for the duration of the work. City staff will be working with TxDOT to provide regular updates. Please make sure to check the cityofsouthlake.com and the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on the FM 1938 construction.

For questions about the FM 1938 Phase II project, please contact Stephen Ranft, TxDOT Mobility Coordinator for the FM 1938 Phase II Project at 817-462-0520 or fm1938mobility@gmail.com.

Lane closures and traffic switches are subject to changes due to weather and schedule.

Please slow down, use caution and have patience while traveling through the construction area.
