Thursday morning 73 outstanding Dragon academic scholars were honored at the National Merit Breakfast at the Administration Center. The district honored these hardworking students by providing a breakfast for them and their families to celebrate their outstanding achievement of being named National Merit Scholars.
Those in attendance were able to hear Carroll Senior High Principal Shawn Duhon address these students on their success, as well as hear a brief word of congratulations from Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Dr. JJ Villarreal and Superintendent Dr. David Faltys. Out of the 73 National Merit Scholars, 44 students were named National Merit Commended Scholars, and 18 students were named National Merit Finalists, who are eligible to continue working to compete for scholarships.
The mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. NMSC accomplishes its mission by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs. The enduring goals of NMSC’s scholarship programs are to promote a wider and deeper respect for learning in general and for exceptionally talented individuals in particular, to shine a spotlight on brilliant students and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence at all levels of education, and to stimulate increased support from organizations that wish to sponsor scholarships for outstanding scholastic talent.
