Carroll assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Clayton George has been approved as the new Tyler Lee Red Raiders head coach.
George was approved at a Tyler ISD Board meeting Monday and he returns to his native East Texas. He is a graduate of Athens.
George spent two stints as an assistant at Carroll and helped lead the Dragons to state championships in 2002 and 2011. George coached under Todd Dodge at Carroll from 2000-2003 before leaving to become head coach at Dallas Hillcrest. This will be his third head coaching stop. He also served as head coach at Haltom and as receivers coach under Dodge at North Texas.
Last spring, George was named the Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Football Federation Gridiron Club of Dallas. He led a Dragon offense that is a regular among the area leaders in offense and guided prolific passers Kenny Hill, Ryan Agnew and Mason Holmes in his most recent stint.
