Carroll Senior High School junior Vasu Mahapatra recently showcased his research paper at the SPIE Photonics West Conference held in San Francisco.
Mahapatra’s presentation was titled “Laser Nano-surgery for Neuronal Manipulation.” This paper is based on a research project that Mahapatra completed at the Biophysics research lab at the University of Texas at Arlington. Mahapatra is a student member of SPIE, the International Society for Optics and Photonics. This was Mahapatra’s first international conference.
Mahapatra also participated in the Fort Worth Regional Science and Engineering Fair held at the University of Texas at Arlington on Feb. 22 where his project titled “End of Paralysis – An Investigation of Neuronal Degeneration and Regeneration,” received the first-place award from the US Air Force.
