50th Anniversary for Southlake Fire Department Proclamation

Mayor Laura Hill recognized March 1, 2016 as the 50th anniversary for the Southlake Fire Department at the March 1, 2016 City Council meeting as stated below.

Whereas, this year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Southlake Fire Department; and,

Whereas, the Southlake Fire Department was created by City Ordinance on March 1, 1966 and was staffed by citizen volunteers; and,

Whereas, in 1972, a junior fire department program was created allowing 16 – 18 year old boys from Carroll High School to assist the volunteer fire department; and,

Whereas, in the 1980s, the Fire Department began the transition from a volunteer fire department to a professional paid department; and,

Whereas, the Fire Department has grown and transitioned from a volunteer department to a Department of Public Safety a nd finally to the 3-station, 72-member department that serves its citizens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; now,

Therefore, I, Mayor Laura Hill, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby recognize March 1, 2016 as the 50th Anniversary of the Southlake Fire Department, and extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the original Southlake Volunteer Fire Department and our current members for their dedication and service to the residents of Southlake over the past 50 years.
