The Dragon Speech and Debate Team defended its UIL Team Championship this year, with a District Championship in Informative Extemporaneous Speaking, Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking, Poetry Interpretation and Cross-Examination Debate, the team together were able to capture the overall Top Speech/Debate team award for this year UIL 6A District 7 contest. As a result, Freshman Sahaj Singh and Ankith Kurapati (1st and 2nd overall in Informative) and Junior Dru Patel, Senior Mafaaz Tanzeem and Junior Sunny Daggubati who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in Persuasive, and Junior Ellie Maclean (Poetry Champion) all competed last weekend at the UIL Regional tournament held at UT Arlington.

Earlier this Spring, two Carroll Junior Public Forum Debate teams were invited to attend the honorable Kandy King Round Robin in PF Debate. Held on the campus of Northland Christian Academy in Houston, each year only 16 of the best team and competitors in Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas Debate are invited to attend and compete in a unique tournament with exceptional competition and judging. Winning nearly 75% of all their rounds Sam Bonham & Austin Meek advanced to Semifinals, while Jackie Prokopeas & Alex Federick finished as Quarterfinalists.

Dragon Debate had four students qualify to National Speech & Debate Association National Tournament this June in Salt Lake City, UT. The following students qualified in their respective event: Juniors Sam Bonham & Austin Meek in Public Forum Debate. Junior Emma Lin representing the Senate in Congressional Debate, and Junior Alex Federick in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking. These four Juniors, and others on our team, competed against numerous other schools from around DFW to earn a spot at Nationals.
