The Southlake Parks and Recreation department has been offering exciting camps to keep kids entertained all summer long, but there are only a few opportunities left to participate. As part of the Youth Camps, young padawans can learn engineering concepts while having fun with the force during Jedi Engineering with LEGO® and Jedi Master Engineering with LEGO®, August 1-5. Included in the Sports Camps lineup, kids can get plenty of exercise and learn teamwork during the Dodgeball Camp, August 15-18.

If your kids love the great outdoors, the Bob Jones Nature Center offers fun and educational opportunities for getting back to nature. From conducting experiments to creating art in nature, kids will learn how wildlife and humans are connected during the Bob Jones Nature Center Summer Day Camps, Tuesdays through Fridays now until August 12. Kids of all ages will enjoy a guided observation of stars, constellations, planets and galaxies. Young astronomers and their families are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and snacks.

Active little athletes can develop skills for a life-long sport during the Southlake Tennis Center’s Summer Tennis Camps. With different classes for different ages, young players learn proper techniques for all strokes and how to play points, as well as enjoy drills, tennis-related games and match play. The last week to score a spot at one of these camps is August 15-19.

Aspiring young aviators will be fascinated with the Taking Flight: How Aviation Changed North Texas and Southlake exhibit on display in Southlake Town Hall. On loan from the Tarrant County Archives and sponsored by the Southlake Historical Society, the exhibit showcases North Texas aviation through colorful panels, photos, maps and memorabilia. The free exhibit will remain in the lobby of Town Hall and in the Southlake Library through August 20.

The entire family can have fun and get fit for a worthy cause during the 8th Annual Hot Hatch Chile Run, Walk & Roll on Saturday, August 20 at Central Market in Southlake. Benefitting the Neuro Assistance Foundation, events include a 1-Mile Run/Walk/Roll at 7:30 a.m., a 5K Handcycle at 8:00 a.m., and a 5K Run/Walk/Roll at 8:05 a.m., with a special youth category for kids 12 years old and younger. Registration includes a full hot breakfast from Central Market, featuring hatch chile breakfast tacos, hatch quiche, roasted potatoes, fruit, juice and coffee.
